3 Tips For Traveling While Recovering From An Injury

April 17, 2024 by Jaime

If you have a big trip coming up but you’ve recently been injured, whether you slipped and fell at your senior living community or you had to have surgery for one reason or another, you’ll be glad to know that there are things you can do to ensure that you’re still able to travel even while you’re healing up.

To help you in figuring out the best course of action for you, here are three tips for traveling while recovering from an injury.

Get Help While In The Airport

If you’re going to be taking a plane as part of your travels, there is all kinds of help that you can get at the airport to ensure that you’re safely and comfortably able to make it around the airport and onto your flight. However, you may need to call the airport ahead of time to ensure that everything you’ll need will be available to you before you arrive.

At most airports, passengers can get services like wheelchairs, transportation through the airport, help through security and other screenings, and assistance with boarding the aircraft. So if these are services that you think you might need due to your injury and how it may be affecting your ability to handle everything on your way, make sure you find out how to get these services before you show up at the airport.

Plan For Things To Take You More Time

Regardless of where you’re traveling and what you might be doing during your trip, when you’re trying to get around with an injury that’s healing, things are automatically going to take you more time than they usually do.

Knowing this, you’ll want to schedule extra time for things into your itinerary. From getting ready to leave your house to getting to the airport, making your way your ground transportation, and everything else, try to build some buffer time into your day so that you’re not constantly stressed or chronically late.

Try Your Best To Pack Light

When you travel, you have to carry a lot of stuff with you. But when your body is injured, you may not be up for lugging a bunch of suitcases or heavy packs through an airport or along your route. So if you can manage it, try to pack light if you’re traveling while nursing an injury. This might mean not even bringing a carry-on on your plane and just checking your bags so that you can keep your hands free while making your way around the airport.

If you’re recovering from an injury but you have a trip scheduled, consider implementing the tips mentioned above to help you get to where you’re going without causing yourself more pain or discomfort.
