3 Things To Do If You Notice Your Fridge And Freezer Aren’t Working As They Should

February 2, 2024 by Jaime

When you put food in your refrigerator or freezer, you expect to come back to it at a later time and have it be sufficiently cold. So when this doesn’t happen, it can be very disconcerting. Especially with the cost of food being so high, many people can’t afford to lose a fridge or freezer full of food due to the appliance not keeping the food at a safe temperature. So if you notice this happening, there are a few things you can try to rectify the situation.

To help you with this, here are three things to do if you notice your fridge or freezer aren’t working as they should.

Start With The Basics

There are a few basic things that could be causing your fridge and freezer not to work as efficiently or effectively. And luckily, these things can be easy to fix if you know what you’re looking for.

First off, make sure that your appliance is properly plugged in and getting the energy it needs to run well. Next, double check that the thermostat hasn’t been accidentally turned down. You should also make sure that the appliance is getting proper air flow around it. This can be done by making sure it’s not too close to the walls around it and that there aren’t too many things piled on top of it.

If anything is amiss with the above mentioned things, making these right may help get your appliances running better.

Give It A Good Cleaning

If nothing is wrong with the electricity, thermostat, or air flow, there could also be a problem with your appliance not being clean enough to function correctly. So if you know you haven’t cleaned any part of your appliance recently, this is another good place to start.

The condenser coils should be clean in order for your fridge or freezer to cool things down properly. And if the gaskets aren’t cleaned, your appliance might not be getting a good enough seal to keep the cool air in and the warmer air out.

Check Out Your Owner’s Manual Or Contact Someone For Repairs

For situations where you’ve tried fixing things on your own but nothing above is making a difference, it may be time to either troubleshoot on your own using your owner’s manual or contact someone to come and make a refrigerator repair.

By checking out the recommendations for the manufacturer or calling a professional to take a look at everything, you’ll be sure that any issues are being taken care of without you accidentally making things worse by trying to fix problems that you don’t really understand in the first place.

If your fridge or freezer isn’t cooling your food down like it should, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you find out what’s going on and make the necessary repairs.

The 6 Benefits of Drinking Warm Beverages

November 14, 2022 by Jaime

Do you slurp a cup of tea every workday afternoon? Or, can you not go a morning without your trusty cup of coffee? If so, good news – you could be doing your mind and body a world of good. If you’re interested in learning how your daily warm beverage is beneficial, here are six reasons.

1: The Great Taste

You probably know this one already, but it’s worth mentioning. Experiencing great taste should never be underestimated, after all! When you need a little treat in the day, that cup of early grey or hot chocolate can be enough to make you feel amazing.

If you’ve not yet found a hot chocolate that tempts your tastebuds, consider hot chocolate bombs. These delightful chocolate bombs melt in a mug of milk to make way for a delicious, warming cup of hot chocolate. It’s better than the instant stuff! Plus, it’s perfect for a pre-bed supper that tastes great while making you sleepy. Whether for yourself or your little ones, they make the ideal tasty hot beverage.

2: The Health Benefits

As well as a great taste, many warm beverages also provide health benefits! Tea is the best when it comes to promoting good health. Different types of teas offer various health benefits. For example, green tea contains vitamin C, while rooibos tea can lead to a healthier heart.

Are you interested in trying a highly nutritious tea? If so, try jasmine tea. It is packed to the brim with antioxidants and can boost cognitive function and protect your heart’s health!

3: Keeps the Cold Away

One of the best parts about sipping a hot beverage is that it keeps you warm. Whether you have a flask full of tea on your morning walk or you’re keeping toasty after a day at work, a mug of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate is the perfect way to warm the entire body. It’s cheaper than putting the heating on, too!

4: Extra Hydration

Many people are dehydrated without knowing it. While the best way to stay hydrated is to drink water, warm beverages still contribute to hydration. Just keep in mind that some are better for hydration than others. Generally, non-caffeinated teas are the best for upping your fluid intake.

5: Potential Weight Loss

Did you know that drinking warm beverages can promote weight loss? That’s because a warm drink will make you feel full, even if you’ve only consumed a few calories. For example, you could drink a cup of green tea and feel satisfied despite it only containing two calories!

Of course, low-calorie warm beverages are better for weight loss. Creamy hot chocolate likely won’t help you reach your weight loss goals, although it will taste delicious! It’s all about moderation.

6: Utter Relaxation

A delicious mug of hot chocolate or chamomile tea will make anyone feel relaxed, even after the most stressful days. So, boil some water, make your warm drink, sit back, and enjoy some much-needed calm while you take in the delicious goodness. You will certainly sleep better for it!

The Benefits of Recycling Aluminum

July 11, 2022 by Jaime

Many advantages come with recycling aluminum. Together with the excellent quality of aluminum, recycling this metal has become a common practice among many manufacturers that use aluminum in their products. Apart from cost and profit benefits, ordinary households can greatly benefit once they start recycling aluminum cans.

About 65% of aluminum utilized in the United States is recycled. Two out of three cans in the country go straight to recycling centers. Almost 90% of recycled aluminum is used to produce aluminum sheets and new beverage cans. Here are the top reasons why recycling aluminum must be adhered to by homeowners and business owners alike.

Reduces carbon footprint

Increased social responsibility and environmental awareness inspired the recent surge of aluminum recycling in the United States. Aluminum recycling prevents the escape of more than 90 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every year. Additionally, installing lightweight recycled aluminum into cars can make them more efficient, resulting in significant savings on gas consumption.

Satisfies the increasing demand for aluminum

Recycling aluminum is also inspired by the ever-increasing global demand for aluminum. Thanks to aluminum recycling, manufacturers utilize more than 35% of recovered aluminum and 65% of primary aluminum to meet their production needs. In addition, thanks to technological advancements, aluminum production is now more efficient. In the past three decades, recycled aluminum cans have been more than 15% lighter than those made before 1993.

Fast and cost-efficient recycling process

Given that aluminum is in great demand, processing facilities have made it easy to recycle this metal. Some communities have initiated their pickup systems in coordination with local recycling companies. Consumers may walk in to deliver their aluminum cans and get paid by the pound. While the price of aluminum per pound varies, aluminum is considered one of the most valuable materials on the recyclable market.

Reduces landfills

Every metal that does not go to recycling plants ends up in landfills or the scrapyard. Reusing aluminum by recycling minimizes dumps, which effectively helps in our collective effort to save the environment.

Saves energy

Energy conservation offers long-term environmental protection. A significant amount of energy is lost when metals such as aluminum do not end up in a recycling plant. A considerable amount of power is saved when aluminum products are placed in recycling plants. Every aluminum can recycled translates to the extended use of a single appliance for four hours. Recycling aluminum effectively saves energy on a large scale while putting less strain on the environment.

Benefits the community

Recycling aluminum cans deliver several benefits to communities, non-profits, and charitable organizations. For example, local can drives that involve collecting aluminum cans raise funds for community projects and school improvements. A perfect example of this initiative is the Cans for Habitat program, a nationwide initiative with Habitat for Humanity International. This program’s proceeds from recycled aluminum cans are donated to Habitat for Humanity to build affordable housing for low-income families.

Bottom line

The simple activity of dropping off aluminum cans at a recycling plant contributes to a cleaner environment. There are also financial and community benefits that make recycling aluminum an attractive option for households and businesses.

Butterfly Knives Guide –You Need to Know Before Buying

June 23, 2022 by Jaime

A butterfly knife, also known as a balisong knife, is a type of folding knife that features two handles that rotate around the blade. Butterfly knives are often used for flipping tricks and can be found in many different sizes and designs. While butterfly knives are legal in many states, there are some restrictions on them so it’s important to check your local laws before purchasing one. There are two types of butterfly knives: training and real. Training butterfly knives have blunt blades and are used to practice flipping tricks without the risk of injury. Real butterfly knives have sharpened blades and can be used for self-defence or everyday tasks like opening boxes or packages.

When choosing a butterfly knife, it’s important to consider the size, weight, and blade style that you prefer. Butterfly knives come in a variety of sizes, from small to large, and can weigh as little as 2 ounces or as much as 12 ounces. The blade style is also important to consider. Some butterfly knives have a plain edge while others have a serrated edge.

Once you’ve decided on the size, weight, and blade style of your butterfly knife, it’s time to choose a handle material. The most common handle materials are metal, plastic, and wood. Each material has its own benefits and drawbacks so it’s important to choose the one that best suits your needs. Metal handles are durable and offer a good grip but can be slippery when wet. Plastic handles are lightweight and inexpensive but can break easily. Wood handles are beautiful and offer a great grip but can be more difficult to clean.

Handle Shape

The first thing you’ll notice about butterfly knives is that they have two handles that are connected by a pivot. This design allows the knife to be easily opened and closed with one hand. The handle shape can vary depending on the manufacturer, but they all share the same basic design.

There are three main types of butterfly knife handles: straight, curved, and contoured. Straight handles are the most basic type and are symmetrical on both sides. Curved handles have a slight curve to them, which makes them more comfortable to hold. Contoured handles are ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in your hand.

Blade Shape & Balance

The butterfly knife is a unique and interesting blade shape that has been around for centuries. The most well-known butterfly knife is the balisong, which is of Filipino origin. The butterfly knife gets its name from the way the blade is balanced in the center of the handle, allowing it to be opened and closed with one hand.

There are two main types of butterfly knives: training and real. Training butterfly knives have dull blades and are made for practicing tricks and flips. Real butterfly knives have sharp blades and are meant for self-defence or everyday carry. When choosing a butterfly knife, it’s important to consider the blade shape and balance. Balisong knives typically have a longer, thinner blade, while other butterfly knives may have a shorter, thicker blade. The blade shape will affect the weight and balance of the knife, so it’s important to choose at knife store one that feels comfortable in your hand.

How to Track Expenses & Save Thousands

April 4, 2022 by Jaime

Let’s face it, tracking expenses isn’t the most exciting way to spend your time, but when you discover ways to tighten the pocketbook and see your bank account swell with savings, you’ll be thrilled. Many of us already feel like we are living well within our means, but the truth is there is always room for improvement – and there are likely plenty of “leaks” in your spending you don’t even realize exist. The difficult part is getting into the habit of writing everything down. Then, it’s keeping that commitment and ultimately, adjusting behavior that actually constitutes positive change.

Open a Spreadsheet

The first step in tracking is to gain an idea as to what money is currently coming in and going out. You’ll want to look at all of your account statements including credit and debit cards and checking accounts. Also, make a list of regular payments including utilities, mortgage, taxes, cell phone, fuel, waste disposal, etc. This will give you an accurate picture of outgoing funds.

When you analyze your accounts, take a look at the categories you spend most of your money. This might be trips to Walmart or fast-food restaurants. Take-out in general, might be an area that is costing you $100 every other week. When you put figures in black and white in front of you, there’s no denying them and it’s bound to shed light on your situation.

Alternatives to consider

  • Like ordering take-out food? Try limiting it to once or twice every other week. Prepare a tasty lunch and dinner menu and take a trip to the store for the items. Meal prep is a great way not only to save money but to also budget calorie intake wisely.
  • Review your car insurance. Chances are good you haven’t taken a look at your insurance policies recently. Now is the time to find cheap auto insurance to reduce your monthly costs while keeping you firmly in the driver’s seat. Comparing quotes is the best way to save money.
  • Cut the cable cord. Cable has been an American staple for decades, but it’s quickly losing its appeal to less costly – even free – online streaming entertainment.

Use a Great Budgeting App

There are numerous apps available that are designed to help you budget your money. They will connect your spending habits with your financial accounts so you can determine where your money is going and where you can cut back.

  • Goodbudget. This unique app uses the envelope budgeting system which helps you plan for future expenses. If you’re looking for an app that will track previous expenses, this app isn’t for you. However, if you are diligent and consistent with your tracking efforts, this app will help you allocate funds to various goals (envelopes).
  • Mint. This app is highly rated and has glowing reviews in the App Store. It syncs all of your accounts and will put all of your spending habits into categories for you to review. You can even set your own limits for categories and the app will alert you when you’re approaching that limit.
  • PocketGuard. This app connects all of your accounts and lets you know how much you will have left over after your regular commitments (such as utilities and other bills). You also do have the option to do this yourself manually instead of linking your accounts.

Track as You Go

While it might seem tedious, carrying a notebook around with you (in your purse or in your car) and then writing down how much you’ve spent on what and where, will accomplish two things: it will remind you of how much you really are spending and it will create a rolling aggregate of your expenditures. It’s easy to swipe a credit card but it’s eye-opening to see a list of purchases you’ve made over the last week or even the last day.

The idea here is to hold yourself fully accountable. When those purchases are in black and white in front of you, they become extremely hard to ignore. At some point, you’re likely to skip a purchase or at the very least, find a less costly alternative.

Move to an All Cash Approach

Along the same lines as writing down all of your purchases, choosing to forgo the credit cards and use only cash will hold you strictly accountable to your budgetary limitations. At the beginning of the week, allow yourself X amount of dollars to spend and don’t go over that bar that you’ve set. Using a credit card is like using ‘invisible’ money that you might not feel accountable for, creating the opportunity to spiral into bad debt.

Don’t let your money sift through your fingers like water. Take control of your spending habits now and watch your savings grow so you can take positive steps toward future financial goals.
