Travel Tips: 4 Ways to Secure Your Hotel Room

August 15, 2022 by Jaime

Traveling around the world is a worthwhile endeavor where you get to explore new cultures, meet new people, and see amazing places. However, it’s important to keep your safety in mind at all times because one disadvantage of travel is the tendency to end up in dangerous situations. One important way to do this is by securing your hotel room against intruders. Many hotel rooms are not as secure as they should be.

Here are four ways to secure your hotel room.

Get Portable Door Locks

If your hotel room doesn’t have a deadbolt, consider getting portable door locks. Portable door locks are easy to install and can provide an extra layer of security for your room. Simply place it over the knob on the inside of your door.

As any home contractor will tell you, there are all kinds of door locks on the market, so it’s important to choose one that is best suited for your needs. For example, some door locks have an alarm that will sound if someone tries to force the lock open.

Buy a Door Wedge

A door wedge is an easy and effective way to secure your door. Door wedges work by jamming the door in place, making it difficult for someone to open it from the outside. Plus, they are often small and inexpensive, making them a great option for travelers.

To properly use a door wedge, place it under the door so that the wedge is between the door and the floor.

When buying a door wedge, look for one that is made of solid material such as metal or wood. You want a door wedge that is durable.

Buy a Motion Sensor Alarm

A motion sensor alarm is another great way to add security to your hotel room. These alarms work by detecting movement and emitting a sound. This can scare off potential intruders and alert you to any activity in your room.

When choosing a motion sensor alarm, look for one that is easy to set up and has a loud noise. You should also consider an alarm that has a flashing light, as this can draw attention even more.

Use a Chair

In case of emergency, or if you did not budget for the items listed above, you can always use a chair to barricade your door. To do this, simply place the chair under the door handle. The weight of the chair will make it difficult for someone to open the door from the outside.

Keep in mind that this method is not as secure as the other options, but it can be used in a pinch.

By following these four tips, you can help secure your hotel room and give yourself some peace of mind while traveling. Don’t let your guard down just because you’re on vacation. Be sure to take the necessary precautions to keep yourself safe.
