Top Things to Do in South Bank

April 23, 2019 by Jaime

South Bank is a commercial, entertainment and art district in London that attracts plenty of tourists each year. There are many fantastic places and exciting things to do in the area, no matter what your interest is. If you are visiting South Bank, here are some of the things that you should not miss.

Shop and eat at the Borough Market

If you’re a certified foodie, a visit to the Borough Market is a must. There are plenty of food stalls to choose from that offer different kinds of foods and specialities. Your taste-buds and stomach will be satisfied. Pastries and bread are also available, as well as fresh meat, cheese, fruits, and vegetables.

Visit the Tate Modern

Art enthusiasts will be delighted by the amazing artworks on display at this museum. There are permanent collections that are housed in the Tate Modern that you can see for free. It also hosts exhibitions for well-known artists that are available to view for a fee. Aside from the artworks, the museum also has the perfect location to enjoy the gorgeous view of the surrounding area that includes the famous Millennium Bridge and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Ride the London Eye

The London Eye is an observation wheel that stands 135 metres high. This will give you a bird’s eye view of the city, providing up to 25 miles of panoramic view when you reach the top. There are also interactive tablets that give information on the landmarks that you will see during the ride. It’s best to try this during the offseason because the peak season produces long lines, so you are likely to spend more time waiting in line than experiencing the entire ride itself, which lasts for 30 minutes. Peak seasons are school holidays and the months of July and August.

Watch a play at Shakespeare’s Globe

Whether you are into stage plays or you just want to give it a try, you will not be disappointed doing this at Shakespeare’s Globe because you will not only be wowed by the performance on stage but by the place itself and the overall experience. It gives the vibe of how people used to watch stage plays in the 17th century. There is a huge hole in the roof above the centre stage. While there are also wooden seats that have roofs on top of them, most spectators still prefer to stand in front of the stage just how it was done centuries ago. Since there is no roof in that area, you need to wear a raincoat to protect yourself from the rain. Umbrellas are not allowed inside.

These are just some of the top things to do on your visit to South Bank as there are a lot more to explore. You may want to stay for several days to maximise the experience, and a serviced apartment near Southbank be an ideal accommodation choice. Find one that will serve as your home while on vacation, offering the modern convenience of hotels and the comfort of an apartment, all in one.
